Given the fact that none of us likes getting a parking ticket, this may not be the most exciting news of the week, but the City has a new software platform for managing parking tickets in Kent.
No ribbon cuttings planned but it does make the accountants and the Police happy as the automated system is an upgrade over the older system and does a much better job keeping track of what’s been issued, what’s been paid, and what’s outstanding.
I guess the rest of us may not share their enthusiasm but if we’re going to be in the parking meter business we need to make sure that the system works properly and fairly — and this upgrade does that.
In the course of implementing the new system I learned that about 70% of people pay their parking tickets on line, 15% by mail and 15% in person.
If you got a parking ticket that you believe is incorrect, please know that you can file an appeal through the Kent Police Department web site.
