For most vehicles lowering the load limit permissible over the Spaulding Drive bridge from 30 tons to 25 tons is not likely to be an issue, but if you’re driving a full concrete truck or overloaded trash truck driver beware and go find a different route to get your destination. The City’s Engineering Division has announced that due to continued degradation of the bridge structure new load limit signs have been posted on both sides of the Spaulding Drive bridge for 25 tons. This is a precautionary measure to protect the public until the bridge can be replaced later this summer.
The rating for a bridge is based on Gross Vehicle Weight which means most vehicles and even most trucks will still be able to safely cross the bridge with the exception of some construction vehicles, overloaded trash trucks and the City’s largest fire trucks.
The load limit should not impact the residential traffic in and out of the neighborhood and no traffic will be prevented from reaching its final destination as access is available to get around the bridge from both the north and south.
