On October 11th, the world famous Anheuser-Busch Clydesdale horses are coming to downtown Kent. This is a one-of-a-kind chance to watch the team get hitched (it takes over an hour to hook them up), deliver a few ceremonial cases of beer and parade around town. The horses will be on display in stalls for photos afterwards on N. Water Street between Main Street and Columbus. The parade will start at 5:30 p.m. and you can visit the horses and take pictures from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30p.m. This is a really exciting event for downtown Kent that was actually made possible by a Kent State grad who now works booking the Clydesdales around the country and wanted to do something for his alma mater’s home town.
The Anheuser-Busch Clydesdale Horses are going to the Cleveland Browns game next Sunday, and on their way they’d like to set up their horse show in downtown Kent on Thursday October 11. They were very clear to point out that this is a family event (no alcohol).
Anheuser-Busch typically charges $30,000 for such an event but the Kent event will be free (thanks to the Kent State grad!). To make it work, we will need to temporarily some downtown streets — Main Street Bridge will be closed. The street closures will definitely affect evening rush hour traffic cutting through downtown Kent on October 11th, so if that’s your normal route you might want to plan your commute accordingly.
This is another one of a series of Main Street Kent events downtown, so raise your cup and give a toast to Main Street for all they’ve done to keep downtown hopping all week long.
