With PARTA’s plans to begin charging for parking in the parking deck downtown starting July 8th, 2013, the PARTA staff have asked us to help spread the word about the new upcoming parking rates.
I figured it’s worth reminding everyone that the parking deck is one of a number of parking options that was built into the City’s overall downtown parking strategy. And it truly is a strategy, with rates and options set in a way that allows prospective parkers to match the price point with the level of access and convenience that they prefer.
If someone wants to park directly in front of their destination then they pay a small price to have that privilege. If they don’t mind walking a half block and they want the peace of mind that the security of the PARTA parking deck offers then they pay a slightly lower fee, and if they don’t mind walking a couple of blocks free parking will be available to them.
The strength of the parking plan is in the mix of options, with something for everyone, and a pricing mix that keeps the prime parking places turning over all day long with new customers rather than long term parkers.
The on-street parking stations are still a couple of months out but PARTA will be open (and charging) for business starting July 8th — here’s the PARTA rate schedule:
