This Friday, March 20th, is the final date for prospective buyers to submit bids to purchase the former County Courthouse building in downtown Kent.
Our plan is to have a small review team take whatever bids are received on Friday and spend a couple of weeks evaluating the bids against the criteria that we asked for — things like price, proposed re-use, compatibility of the re-use with the downtown revitalization, impact of the project, jobs created, financial capability of the developer, etc.
The review team will use a spreadsheet to rate each proposal against the criteria so that we can come up with an overall ranking of the bids to present to City Council for their consideration.
I’m guessing that we’ll be in a position to make a recommendation for the sale of the property to Council in late April or early May.
We’ve received interest from 3 potential bidders, each of whom have other development projects underway in Kent. Hopefully they’ll each submit a proposal by Friday but nothing has been submitted yet.
