Monday night the Kent Parks and Recreation Department opened up the shelter in Fuller Park to allow a group of Kent State Architectural students to display their concept models for what the Kent Skatepark could look like. John Idone sent me pictures of the park ideas and I was impressed enough to upload them for you to see too — proving once again that the only thing better than cheap labor is talented cheap labor.
Here’s what they came up with:
John Idone said that there were so many good ideas they’ll probably have another public meeting for Kent’s skateboarders (and others interested in the park) to come look at the models and talk about the pro’s and con’s of each idea from the skateboarder’s perspective.
In the last city where I worked we paid $50,000 to a consultant to get some skatepark ideas on the table so the good news for Kent is that the student’s work is money we can keep in the construction of the park rather than the design. It’s an exciting project for Kent and Kent State.
I’ll keep you posted on the next meeting announcement.
